Industrial activity

The main industrial activities of the forestry enterprises of the State Forestry and Agricultural Organization are:

• timber harvesting;
• wood processing;
• production of planed and molded products;
• production of rounded and debarked timber;
• production of wood fuel;
• secondary forest use;

Timber harvesting

Wood Processing

Sixteen forestry enterprises of the Gomel Forestry and Forestry Association operate sawmills and woodworking facilities. Their annual timber processing capacity is 1,200,000 cubic meters, including 700,000 cubic meters of commercial timber. The average annual lumber production volume is 290,000 cubic meters, of which approximately 165,000 cubic meters are exported.

Sales of Forest Products on the Domestic Market

Annually, approximately 4.0 million cubic meters of round timber are sold on the domestic market across all sales types, including 2.8 million cubic meters of commercial timber. Timber is sold under civil contracts and at exchange auctions at the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange. Of the total commercial timber sales, approximately 60% is shipped by railcar.

Wood Fuel Production

The association's 20 forestry enterprises operate stationary and mobile processing facilities of domestic and foreign manufacture for the production of fuel chips. The total annual capacity of the facilities is 652,600 cubic meters. Wood chips. Wood chips are supplied to both domestic and foreign markets.

The Buda-Koshelevsky experimental forestry enterprise has equipment for the production of chopped firewood.

The Zhitkovichi and Mozyr forestry enterprises have established facilities for the production of wood fuel (pellets).

Secondary Use

One of the promising and dynamically developing areas of activity for the association's forestry enterprises is secondary forest use and the harvesting of secondary forest resources, including the harvesting of tree sap, wild fruits, berries, and other edible forest resources, the placement of beehives and apiaries, haymaking, the harvesting of Christmas trees, brooms, and bath whisks, etc.
